Find/Change Objects and Attributes in InDesign CS3

March 29th, 2007
Written by Pariah S. Burke

Among many exciting new and improved features in InDesign CS3, the totally re-imagined Find/Change function is among my favorite top five. The first time I opened the Find/Change dialog I was literally stunned into silence (shutting me up is not an easy task). What about it could possibly silence, even for a moment, this opinionated […]

The affects and effects of effective Effects

March 29th, 2007

In the world of page layout features there are the bread-and-butter features such as numbered lists, running headers and footers, multi-placing of images. They’re nice, but the features that get people excited are the bells and whistles of any new version.
InDesign CS3 is ringing church bells, jingle bells, and fire alarm bells, as well as […]

Remote Workflow Support in InCopy/InDesign CS3

March 27th, 2007
Written by Anne-Marie

With CS1 or CS2, an InDesign/InCopy workflow works best when everyone (design and editorial) has read/write access to the same local file server. If an editor working from home wants to use InCopy to edit stories in the layout, the best you can do is to e-mail him a mess of files (assuming you can figure out which files to send them), hope that he doesn’t rename or rearrange any files at their end, keep your fingers crossed that he sends you back the right ones and hope you remember where to put them.

idic-stacked.gifThat’s all over with in CS3. Both InDesign and InCopy now offer a spiffy “Package” command in their Assignments panels that take care of automating all of the above, and more. In fact, with CS3 it’s possible to run a completely virtual workflow if you want: One designer, umpteen remote InCopy users, all keeping each other up to date with e-mailed Packages. Let me show you how the new remote workflow works in four simple steps!

InDesign CS3! New Features and Pricing

March 27th, 2007

Finally! After months of speculation from users worldwide — “Will it fix this annoyance? Add that feature? Not break my piggybank?” — Adobe publicly announced today feature and pricing details about the newest version of their flagship product, Creative Suite 3 (CS3), due to ship in the very near future (perhaps even within the next few weeks).

IDcs3boxshotHere at InDesignSecrets, of course we’re mostly interested what’s new with InDesign CS3, which in our minds is the central application in the Creative Suite. It’s the Sun around which all the other Suite programs revolve. Or, as David likes to say (tongue only partially in cheek), “Photoshop and Illustrator? They’re wonderful InDesign plug-ins.”
