5.0.4 Update Available for CS3

So, you didn’t rush right out and buy CS4? Well, if you’re sticking with CS3 for the time being, you should note that Adobe has released a fourth and likely final update to CS3.

The most important feature of the 5.0.4 update is that it makes CS3 as compatible as possible with CS4 INX files. There’s also some bug fixes.

This is a cumulative update containing all of the dot releases meaning that updater will update 5.0.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.2 and 5.0.3 to directly to 5.0.4. The update should be available via the Help > Updates command but for those you behind firewalls or having issues with the Adobe Updater, the Windows updater file can be directly downloaded from here and the Mac updater from here.

The readme file can be found here.

Unfortunately I still can’t print from CS3 (5.0.4) using custom settings on my Canon printer. Hopefully CS4 will fix that problem, as I’m not sure whether it was 5.0.3 or a plug-in that caused it to stop working in InDesign :(

I have had that same problem upon printing last week with custom settings. I did a search and found that there are a few workarounds that can be tried. 1 has worked for me.

Here is the thread I found

    Hope this helps.

I found the pstops hack when I was sick of running in Rosetta, and it held up reasonably well. At least until the Security Update 2008-007 came out and replaced the printing system again. It’s a huge PITA, and I can’t believe nobody has stepped up to the plate to fix it yet.

There’s a discussion going on in the Adobe forums. It looks like that might be another disappearing InDesign problem. It looks like Adobe’s blaming Apple, and Apple’s blaming Adobe. Great.

Thanks, but I’m on PC and don’t have a problem printing to custom sizes but to varying weights (plain, heavy, etc.) which don’t get sent to the Fiery RIP when I print from InDesign CS3.
I’m getting tired of having to open the INDD file in Acrobat Pro, export to PDF or use the RIP software to cancel a print sent from InDesign CS3, change the settings and re-start the print.

Hi, for some odd reason I was unable to successfully install the 5.0.4 update for CS3 ME-oops! is that the problem – or did it not say for all languages?

When I updated, all my keyboard shortcuts disappeared.

Fortunately,my shortcuts weren’t deleted, it just changed them to use the [Default] set. I changed it back and all my shortcuts came back.

May be worth backing up your prefs before updating, though, just in case.

I don’t know how well this goes with the other problems listed above, but my department just upgraded to CS3 and now we are having problems getting separations containing greyscale/hafltone images to print to any of our printers. We are able to get separations to print but any images with halftones/greyscale/dot images are printing solid black. No gradient.

We’ve done a lot of reading on many different websites and have not be able to find anything to help us with this problem. We believe this is a on-host issue as our RIPs are compatible. (At least as we’ve been led to believe.)

Anyone have any ideas what we can try? We’ve messed with all parts of Color Management in the Color Settings under Edit and we’ve tinkered with all aspects of color management in the print dialog box.

@Nico: Sorry, I really don’t know. Try rebuilding preferences. But it may be a case where you need to uninstall and reinstall the program.
