Becoming an Adobe Certified Associate is a great way to demonstrate your abilities and maximize your chances of getting a great job or internship.

Show me, don’t tell me. It’s great advice that can help you get the best results in all kinds of endeavors: creative writing, teaching, presenting, even career building. It’s one thing to sit in an interview for a job or internship and tell the interviewer how well you know InDesign. It’s quite another thing for you to show your InDesign skills and knowledge by passing a rigorous certification test.

You may already be familiar with the Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) program, which offers folks the chance to prove they have high-level skills in Adobe applications, including InDesign. Being an ACE means you’re a seasoned pro who really knows your stuff. But if you’re looking for your first opportunity to use InDesign in a professional environment, you might not have the skills and experience to pass the ACE exam. That’s why Adobe (along with testing partner Certiport) developed the Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) program.

    Hi Mike,

Is this certification available in India also?

    Thanks,
    Sanjay

  • John Lauer says:

    Hello Mike
So thanks for your great Lynda.com courses, I have been eagerly prepping for the indesign ACA exam based on your tutelage.
Unfortunately, the testing centers that are listed by certiport(pearson vue) in the greater New York Metropolitan area do not offer ACA for InDesign. I was on the phone with Certiport for an hour yesterday. Do you have any students or colleagues that have taken the test in the New York/New Jersey area recently? I would like to gain certification, but my hands are tied if I cant take the test. Thanks Mike

    • Mike Rankin says:

Hi John- Wow, that’s frustrating! One question: did you already try calling the test centers directly rather than Certiport?

  • John Lauer says:

Hey mike, thanks for getting back, yes i did call the testing centers, (I also tried Adobe) and i think that is the key. What i am gathering is the demand for InDesign cert. Is not as high as Photoshop and Premiere, etc. So maybe they just don’t bother? NYC park and rec. Offer adobe classes, then the opportunity to certify upon completion which is great, but logistically no good for me. They were the only ones- still calling though, next stop philly! I will keep you posted. thank you and Cheers, john

    • Mike Rankin says:

That is so disappointing. Well, I know at least one place in Boston that gives the InDesign exam—the one where I took it to develop the course for Lynda.

      • john lauer says:

Thank you! I am sure there are others (this would really be an anomaly) I will persist. Hey, If push comes to shove, it’s been a long time since i have been to boston – i will take it there. :)
thank you for your attention to this. cheers, john

  • Kelly Vaughn says:

Sadly the closest testing center that offers the Illustrator ACA exam is 2.5 hours away. I wonder why the testing centers offers some of the Adobe exams and not others?

  • john lauer says:

Hey Kelly, I feel your frustration – I finally found a testing center and became ACA certified, but it took a lot of looking. The person ‘proctoring’ my ACA esxam informed me that previously, a testing center had to have access (installed or CC subscription) to adobe software to offer the exam. Certipro now has proxy software (at least for indesign) so the testing venue could be almost anywhere. I don’t know if that holds true for illustrator or photoshop. I plan to take the photoshop ACA, so I will try to follow up with this.
    Thanks for the comment.
