Adobe extends pricing deals on CS4!

15

Just got this press release from Adobe.

What it means is that those who have CS2 or CS1 or even Macromedia Studio will be able to upgrade to CS4 with the special pricing.

—————————————–

Adobe today extended its introductory pricing offer for Adobe Creative Suite 4 until April 30, 2009. With the launch of Creative Suite 4 in September 2008, Adobe introduced tiered pricing from previous versions and for a limited time, validly licensed customers with eligible versions of Adobe Creative Suite 1, Creative Suite 2, Macromedia Studio and Adobe Production Studio were able to upgrade to Creative Suite 4 for the CS3 upgrade price. Now, customers in North America upgrading from previous versions can still take advantage of the Creative Suite 3 upgrade price and save up to US$200.

The introductory pricing offer applies to Creative Suite 4 Design Premium, Design Standard, Web Premium, Web Standard and Production Premium. For individual point products, customers can upgrade to CS4 from up to three previous versions. The only exception is Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, to which customers can upgrade from any previous version of Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe Premiere. For more details on pricing, visit https://www.adobe.com/creativesuite.

This offer also applies to Creative Suite 4 upgrades purchased through the Adobe corporate and government volume licensing programs. For more information on volume licensing, visit www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/openoptions/. Additionally, Adobe offers discounted pricing to eligible education customers; those discounts are unchanged by the introductory pricing offer. For more information about education pricing, visit

  • No offense to Adobe and their generous and helpful offer, but, um, I do wonder why they don’t offer a discount to CS3 users who want to upgrade. Sigh.

  • How about a fair pricing structure for overseas customers as well

  • Matt says:

I fully agree with Marcus. In some countries in S-E. Asia the Suite is almost not affordable, even for medium companies. Trust me, it is much higher than the US $ sales price quoted by Adobe. I.e. the Master Collection has a price tag of over 3200 US$ if you buy in a local store. Higher prices apply to all Adobe products.

  • Eugene says:

Yeh totally agree, it was only a week or two ago where I posted the price difference on another post. It’s nearly 40% dearer. I know the upgrade is a cheaper price, but even the upgrade price is a lot dearer for overseas users.

It would be interesting if Adobe offered the upgrade at the US price all over the world for 1 day and see how many downloads it gets, I’d bet it would bust their servers.

I’m pulling for Cs4 upgrade for InDesign, but the upgrade price is still too high.

Dollars translate as ?159 for the upgrade, where abode offer it in Ireland for ?240. I don’t know why a download is ?90 dearer. To put it in relative terms for the US, Adobe are charging users in Ireland $304 for the upgrade. OK it might seem like a few bucks for a company, but when 4 people need the upgrade then it gets heavier price.

    Why?

  • w.m. bravenboer says:

We will not be buying CS4 for a while, not only because the prices in Holland are complete ridiculous, but the crisis is also a reason; we already are feeling the effect, less orders are coming in.
I still think Adobe has made a bad mistake in alienating their non-US customers with very unfriendly price policies, and although CS4 is perhaps good and great, but CS3 is still doing the job. At this time we have had only 1 job made in Illustrator CS4…

  • F vd Geest says:

As I heard, CS4 is NOT selling wll, at least not as expected. So this is not a ‘gesture’ by Adobe but a need to sell more CS4…

  • w.m. bravenboer says:

Well, that is a surprise! ;)

  • amc says:

    @DB: That’s exactly what I was thinking..

    Seems unfair.

  • Roland says:

As others have said, I too think Adobe needs to rethink its pricing. It’s a shame there’s no Open Source alternative, as competition like that would definitely help.

They’re headed in the same direction as Microsoft with their Office suite: it’s too expensive to upgrade for quite a lot of people, so they’ll make do with the version they have (I’ve only received files in the latest Office format from one client so far) and only upgrade when they really have to.
Of course Microsoft faces another problem there: OpenOffice.org which is gaining ground thanks to it being free and working quite well, and the EU’s support for it doesn’t hurt either. If only there was a viable alternative for Outlook. But I’m getting off-topic here.

  • John W says:

    >>>why they don?t offer a discount to CS3 users who want to upgrade.

@DB: you took the words right out of my mouth.

  • Jean-Claude Tremblay says:

Adobe is unfair… Folks who pay for CS3 are the one that have given $$$ to Adobe. And now, because you have done that you must pay more for CS4 that the one who have not pay for the last CS3, Cs2 or even Cs version.

I know it’s a marketing trick to encourage old Cs user to jump with CS4. But the side effect is that peoples (particluarly CS3 owner) will say to themselves: “No need to update to CS4, wait to CS5 and we will have a rebate”.

Hey, Adobe nice way to say thanks to faithful users (CS3).

  • Would upgrade in a minute NO a second if CS3 upgrades were as good.

  • Scott says:

Can you upgrade from Windows version over to Mac version of the Creative Suite?

  • Bob Levine says:

@Scott: Yes, you can but you must do so directly through Adobe.

  • Dean says:

Adobe has taken away every incentive for upgrading CS3 for those in the EU. The unjust, grab-what-you-can pricing scheme, coupled with the 20-installation limit of the package, stealthily brought about, makes any upgrade a ridiculous notion. I thought America preached a free market. Double talk, double standards, as usual, I guess.
