Every Single InDesignSecrets Podcast on One Page
I was doing a quick Google search for a fixed-layout EPUB question and one of the top hits was for an InDesignSecrets page I’d never seen before:
I clicked on the page link and it brought me to a page I hadn’t realized existed, the InDesignSecrets podcast archives! It’s a page (site, actually) that’s automatically generated and updated by Libsyn.com (our podcast host) whenever we publish a new episode. It contains the recordings, the Show Notes, links, sponsor deals, and anything else we wrote up for every single one of our 175+ podcasts, dating back to Episode 1 on November 29, 2005!
Navigation links down the left let you find podcasts by month and year, or you can use the Search field at the bottom left to search for any text that appeared in our Show Notes. Wondering if we covered a particularly confusing InDesign command as an Obscure Feature of the Week? Just type it into the Search field.
I love this page because it’s the complete collection of our shows (unlike on iTunes, where only the shows after episode 76 are available) and it’s easy to scroll through dozens of shows at a time. Yes, our own site also has the complete collection of our podcasts, but it’s more difficult to navigate, and it’s a pain to search for something that was only mentioned in a podcast, since our site’s search engine always searches the entire site. (On the other hand, the Libsyn.com page doesn’t have the comments that listeners add to the podcasts — you can only find them on our site.)
I couldn’t resist clicking through to revisit Episode 1 on the Libsyn.com page. Episode 1′s show notes were brief: “Introductions, Embedding graphics, Multi-column frames, CMYK Swatches, Friendly Alien.” We didn’t start the Obscure Feature of the Week until episode 3 — fast-forward to about 19:45 in to hear us introduce the concept and debut the first one.
