First InDesignSecrets Tips & Tricks eSeminar Announced
As you probably know by now, we love sharing information about InDesign. But sometimes we get tired of typing (for blog posts) or talking (for our audio podcasts), and we just want to demonstrate, live, how to do a certain technique. So we’re starting a series of eSeminars, or Webinars, or whatever you want to call them. Come join us on Tuesday, August 19, at 11 am pacific time* as we take on a bold new world!
Our first eSeminar features our very own internationally-renowned instructor and page-layout guru David Blatner, as he shares some of his favorite tips, tricks, and techniques for getting the most out of Adobe InDesign! This 90-minute class covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Essential shortcuts that every InDesign user should know about
- Productivity techniques for working with Photoshop, Illustrator, and the rest of the Creative Suite
- Important (and free!) scripts and plug-ins that help you be more efficient
- Best practices for working with text from Microsoft Word
- …and more!
Plus, there will be time set aside for questions and answers, and a prize drawing ($150 value) at the end.
The cost for the seminar is US$69, but here’s a discount code for $20 off: IDS88. (Just click on that link to jump right to the registration page and apply the discount automatically.)
If you don’t know David’s background, you can find out more about him (and our other contributors) on this page.
We hope to see you then!
*We tried to find a time that would work for people in the US, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia… but we failed. Let us know below what times or day of the week you think would be better for your schedule. Plus, we’ll try to record these seminars for future viewing (no promises on that, though…)

please could you make a record of the session id love to pay for a downloadable DIVX which i can play any time even without internet connection…
That means you guys are 8 hours behind me for this show. So it’s 9:08 here, so that makes it 1:08 there. So 11 am + 8 hours = 19 which is 19:00 hours, which means it’s 7 in the evening for me, which is great, I should be home from work.
My internet connection at home hasn’t been the best lately, what happens if I pay for it and I can’t view it, genuinely? I’d love to catch the live show though.
So I think the idea of recording it and having it available to download is a great idea.
I’ve signed up though. Fingers crossed!
Our goal is to record it, but to be honest we haven’t tried it before, so we’re not sure what we’ll get. One new technology at a time.
Unfortunately, we cannot be responsible for technical difficulties involving people’s Web connections, etc. We’re using the Adobe Acrobat Connect system, which has worked extremely well over the past several years for Adobe and hundreds of other clients internationally. So I have high hopes for success.
Looking forward to “seeing” you there!
Ah I’ll be back for a refund, David.
Just kidding. I’ll just stay in work that day, good interweb connection here.
Great idea! How long will the Webinar last?
So that’s 8 a.m. Eastern time right? A perfect first thing to do at work.
Phyllis
Where will we go to view this event? Eventbrite or here at idsecrets.com?
Phyllis: Be careful! You subtracted the wrong way - 11 am Pacific is 2 PM Eastern. Don’t miss the show!
You’ll view the webinar in your browser in our InDesignSecrets “room” … we use Acrobat Connect, like the one Adobe uses for their eSeminars. You can listen over the computer or via phone conference line
After you register we (or David) will send you the URL and logon info.

Thanks chadthebad! I always seem to mess up time conversions. Maybe they’ll post all the time zones.
Okay, well it can coincide with my coffee break.
I wonder how long it’ll last….. ?
So it’s still about $50? for a webcast? I can get 2 months of Linda.com for that price or put it toward an actual live day long event.
Rachel, most eseminars that we looked at are more expensive than this by far. But it’s true, if one of us is coming to a city near you, you could definitely use it for an in-person seminar.
As for lynda.com: You are right, and I hope you do sign up for lynda.com and watch our movies there. But you can’t ask questions there, and some of the tips I’ll do aren’t in those movies. So there are always trade-offs.
We hope that if you like the kinds of things you read and hear about at indesignsecrets.com you’ll find these eseminars useful, too.
So do I need to purchase Adobe Acrobat Connect system to be able to view it if I sign up?
@Becca: Oh no, not at all. We pay all those costs. You should be able to view the eSeminar in any modern Web browser (Firefox, Safari, Explorer, etc.)
Here is a handy link to translate 11 am Pacific Time into your time zone around the world:
Times for David’s eSeminar Around the World!
Great seminar! Those were awesome tips and tricks. My favorite trick was threading the box of large-sized type to the box of regular-sized type and having it update dynamically. I wouldn’t have figured that out in a million years.
And my favorite tip was the alt-shift duplication method since I’m forever trying to make a copy and align it horizontally….
Thanks!
Phyllis
Great idea. But how about a teaser video before we slam down the moolah?
Cary, that’s a great idea. We’ll try to make a video available before the next one.
