When I export from the book panel, all my settings such as to use my InDesign TOC style, ignore overrides, don't embed fonts, etc. are completely ignored. If I export just a chapter, the settings are honored. I have tried rebuilding my InDesign preferences and making a brand new book, but neither helped. Does anyone have any ideas? Anne-Marie??

CS5.5, Mac OS X 10.6.8

Hi Sarah,

That's strange. Hmm. Does it happen with all your INDB book docs or just this one?

Well, this is the first book I've epubbed from 5.5 (I've done quite a few from CS4). Just now I setup up a quick test book with a few completely different documents in it and it does appear to export using the settings I choose. So, it's a problem with this book? Like I said, I already tried creating a new book. Maybe I'll try the old idml round-trip with each document…

I *think* I may have figured out what the problem is. I exported all the documents to idml, opened, saved, made a new book and tried exporting to epub with various different settings. The problem seems to be when I add a publisher entry. My publisher name has an ampersand in it, which apparently InDesign doesn't like. If I use the ampersand, ALL the export settings are ignored. If I leave out the ampersand, export settings work as they should.

Wow … that's a pretty big bug! At the least, they should put up an alert warning the user that ampersands aren't allowed or something.


I'll see if I can reproduce it here.

Yes, verified. Has nothing to do with a book… it happens even with a single document. 


I only tested with and without an ampersand, but it may be more special characters as well. 


I'll send a message to some Adobe folks, but you should also file a bug report here:

The ambersand is not an allowable character in XML. I wonder if you enter "&amp" (without quotes) if it will work. If not, perhaps you could not enter the ambersand, then search for the name in the XML file and replace with the breakout code.
