I have numerous book files. Recently I have discovered that I am unable to open files via the book panel. I can open files and they are then displayed as open in the book panel itself, but the book panel is not functioning at all.
Has anyone experienced the same problem or have any idea what could be the problem? I have tried closing and relaunching InDesign and also completely shut down the computer and reboot with no luck.
I already tried the rebuilding preferences options. I have also discovered that I cannot move the slider on the book panel, select objects and move between layers, change values for border widths along with a whole bunch of other things. I can input and edit text. I checked to make sure that my mouse and keyboard are working in other programs and there are no problems.
So I tried a reinstall and I am having the same problems. These problems do not seem to be specific to a specific file/document/book, but are global, weird and HIGHLY FRUSTRATING!
Any other suggestions would be welcomed, because work has come to a standstill.
Thanks so much for help (David Blatner)! I was going to take you up on your offer and actually upload a video! However, I did another search online and discovered the answer in the Adobe forums (which appeared to have been down yesterday). So I have resolved the issue and I think that it is worthwhile to let you (and everyone else) know what the problem was because IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!
There is a known issue with panels and tools not responding to mouse clicks in Vista and Windows 7 when the DPI setting is too high. The problem is explained here at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/k…..
Once I reset the monitor, I was back to smaller font size, but everything worked fine.
As an aside, I did/do have a slider on my book panel, because once you get past a certain number of files, a slider automatically appears. The other "issues" I mentioned where related to the fact that none of the panels were working properly.
As an even further aside, thanks for all your work here and the videos on lynda.com!
