I found this helpful article about how to open a CS5 document in CS3.

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/in…..6d4da.html

Unfortunately this does me no good because I need to have CS4 in order to pull it off. I only own CS3 and CS5. Is there another way to get a CS5 InDesign document into CS3?

Please help!

Other than using CS4? No.

It's (somewhat) similar to the situation of CS2 users, when CS4 came out — no direct route. The INX hack that worked for this combo was exactly that: a hack, no guarantees, etc., and it never has had Adobe's seal of approval.

Good news is, there simply must be programmers out there that sit up and see $$ signs.

I suppose then the only viable option is to find someone who DOES have CS4 and is willing to do me a favor by converting the file.

Sigh.

I think it was stupid of Adobe to not allow backward compatibility with files.

I know it's a bit late but thought this might help people who stumble across this in the future.

If you don't have newer versions of InDesign there is a service which does this down saving CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3 files to which ever format you need for a small fee and can save you a lot of time.
