Hey gang,

Longtime lurker, first-time poster.

I'm having trouble geting a table of contents to work properly in an InDesign book document. My TOC is a separate file in my book. Everything looks fine when I create the TOC. Page numbers are correct, etc.  I check the options to "create PDF bookmarks" and "include book documents" when the TOC is generated. But when I click the TOC bookmarks in the resulting PDF, the links don't work. When I check their properties, they are all set to "link to a page in another document" and not "link to a page in this document." The "other documents" are the names of the files in my INDB document. To fix this, I have been going into the PDF in Acrobat and manually relinking each bookmark to the correct page. Is the link between a PDF bookmark and its corresponding page "broken" when InDesign assembles the files of a book? I find that hard to believe. What am I doing wrong here?

Thank you!

Hi Matt,

My situation is similar, that I have the book TOC in a separate file which also contains the title page and license info page.

I've found out that each time I'm exporting the book to pdf all TOC links are lost. So my solution is – each time before exporting to pdf, update the TOC in this first book file. That's ridiculous, but that's how it is :-) .
