I'm new to InDesign, coming from Quark. I might have missed a relevant forum, but my company has messages on the bottom of each catalog spread that change depending on the page number. Luckily, there are ten messages so every 20 pages the message cycle repeats. Currently, we manually do this…ugh.
What makes this harder is that there is often repagination so as pages shuffle inside a Book, it would be immensely easier if the whole message cycle could be automated as the pages automatically update.
Is there a script/plug-in/GREP that would help me out?
I don't know about plug-in or script, but I wonder if you can make that work easier with either text variables (see Type > Text Variables) or the Section Marker (http://indesignsecrets.com/ind…..ts-006.php)
I enjoyed the podcast but I can't get the suggestions to work. I've also done most of the lynda.com courses concerning CS4 InDesign (all spectacular!) but also to no avail in this one thing.
What complicates this is that the folios don't change by group of pages (as a section would do) but spread to spread. For example, pages 4&5 might say "See our website", pages 6&7 "100 new products", pages 8&9 "InDesign is great", etc. and then cycle again at pages 24&25, 26&27, etc.
I might be missing a simple check box or something, but I can't seem to figure out how to get text variables or section markers to work without having an item to signal the text variable or without designating a new section every spread. Plus, when pages 6&7 inevitably get moved, let's say, to the 4&5 position, it would be great if the message on that spread would then update to "See our website" and then every succeeding page update up one message in the list.
As much as I hate to say it… yeah, you're asking the impossible.
Well, actually, no… I'm sure a script or plug-in could do it. Not sure if power headers from in-tools.com can do that… might check with them (though they may be out this week).
