I was only 1 year old when this broadcast – but in 1981 they broadcast newspaper by telephone – a whopping two hours to download an edition and no pictures! They claim it as an experiment of the times, which is probably true. But the talk of getting magazines and newspapers online got my attention. Thinking it's now 30 years on and still getting a newspaper or magazine to a mobile or computer is a difficult task :) Still though in 1981 I know Richard Halloran "owns a home computer" that made me laugh. In fairness, his home computer probably put my 1983 ZX Spectrum 48k to shame! But that puppy still works but it didn't have "internet".

The adverts they published were a far cry to what they actually got in the package too! Ha – wouldn't get away with that today :)

WOW. That's awesome, Eugene. I love the TRS-80. And the telephone modem. I remember using 300 baud modems with a telephone cradle. Of course, I also remember paper tape and recording programs on "audio" cassettes. Good times.
