Hungry for another great InDesign tip? How about an image sandwich? You know the effect, you’ve seen it a million times on magazine covers. It’s where some sharp vector text looks like it’s sitting between the subject and the background of an image.

  • Thanks, that technique should be great for book covers as well as magazines. I’d add that once you’ve extracted that top image, you’re not restricted to retaining what’s behind it. Anything appropriate can be used.

That’s particularly handy when you’re working with stock photos from inexpensive sources such as Deposit Photos and Big Stock Photos. In fact, when they’re shot indoors, many of the more professionally done one have either a very low-key or an all white background that’s easily removed.

And yes, as the video points out, it is marvelous that what once took specialized equipment costing many tens of thousands of dollars can now be done with a mere $50/month Creative Cloud subscription. We live in a great age for creativity.
