Free Lynda.com Video: InDesign Scripting Made Easy
Why do we even bother using computers? They can be a colossal pain in the butt. They’re expensive, delicate, complicated, and chock full of nasty toxic materials. But…they also allow us to accomplish tasks that would be simply impossible (or take an impossible amount of time) to do manually. Try doing 5,000 personalized postcards by hand, and you’ll quickly forgive all the sins of silicon.
Likewise, if you’re of a certain I-was-told-there’d-be-no-math ilk, the idea of learning how to write scripts might seem worse than a trip to the dentist. But when you’re faced with a critical job that will take you all day, but could be done with a script in seconds, all of a sudden scripting becomes an attractive alternative.
So how do you get started scripting if you don’t have a clue where to begin? I’d say to check out Keith Gilbert’s new Lynda.com course, InDesign Scripting Made Easy.
The course is made for folks like designers and production artists with no prior scripting background. Keith breaks down the process of working with scripts into manageable chunks, so you can see how they work, and get started making your own simple scripts quickly.
Among the free videos in the course are the following:
How to install a script
Write the body of the script
