Glad to Be Aboard

Thank you, Anne-Marie and David, for the gracious welcome and build-up for me and The InDesigner videocast. It’s a pleasure to come aboard as the newest contributor to InDesignSecrets.

I look forward to the opportunity for both of our podcasts to reach, instruct, and help even more InDesign users to be more efficient, productive and creative every day. David and Anne-Marie seem to have this application embedded in their DNA, and I’m excited to join them as part of “The Independent Resource for All Things InDesign.”

I’ve followed InDesignSecrets since the very first episode, and I check in on the web site every day for what’s new. It has been both a great learning tool for me, and a benchmark for quality in this brave new world of podcasting.

I hope that our combined audiences will share in a comprehensive body of continuously-updated InDesign knowledge, and that together we develop a community of InDesign users that is second to none.

My first InDesigner episode as part of the InDesignSecrets team is in the works and will be available in just a few days. As I always have and always will, I welcome your comments and questions here on the blog, by e-mail, or look for “theInDesigner” on AIM or iChat.

I’m glad you’re here, Michael. I had not previously heard of your videocasts and I’m very impressed.

I have a question about one of the techniques you used in the latest edition — the anchored object as callout point trick: how did you keep the other end still? Or did you gloss over the need to move the pointer back where it belongs?

Is this the right place to ask such questions?

Hi Michael! Just wanted to … um … say hi. ;-)

Dave, we’re pretty freeform here with the comments, but generally it’s easier to follow discussions if you post comments on a particular episode to the blog entry for that episode. For the “latest episode” you referred to, which was Show 28, that would be here.

And that’s where I’ll put my reply to Dave in just a moment… :)

Round, like a circle in a spiral like a wheel within a wheel! That’s where I started in order to get here. That link takes me to the home page.

GAH! We’re suffering a temporary glitch in the database. It’s adding a bunch of gibberish text when you add a link to a comment … sorry about that!

  7. September 15th, 2006 • 9:15 pmLink

    Okay, glitch is gone.

And while I’m in this Edit Comment box, let me welcome all of Michael’s fans from his old stomping grounds to InDesignSecrets as well. If you browse through this section you’ll note that not only did we bring over all of Michael’s posts, but we were careful to include all the comments you had written as well.

Also, FYI, there’s no need to register before making a comment. All that the comment form requires is your e-mail address, which is never made public. Feel free to jump in anytime!

Yes, Anne-Marie! InDesignSecret’s blog works sooooo much better than mine did, and I’m hoping that the ease of use generates much, much more open dialog with The InDesigner’s audience.

As I am deaf but I cannot hear audio sound, but it would be great to add subtitles this would take up too much of your time. I can see what you are doing!

The new iTunes is SO annoying. We don’t have iTunes music store in South Africa, and you can’t sign in to the store without having an account - so even FREE content like yours is unavailable to anyone without an account. Not to mention the fact that there will be some who simply don’t want to have their credit details on iTMS and just want to be able to get free content. No such luck. Any chance of making all these casts available as an RSS feed?

    Congrats Michael,
Hope this will bring even more indesigners to see your work not just the old visitors from your previous site.
Learned a lot from your podcast, so i hope that this move will bring even more content to the tables :)

iTunes may be the easiest option for most people, but it’s by no means the only game in town.

Both the videocast and podcast are available either through this web site, or you can access their RSS feeds directly.

    Michael,

Just a note to thank you for the great videos you produce. I learn something (many things!) from every one of them. I’m glad that you are joining up with David and Anne-Marie because I learn so much from them as well. (I’m going to have to get a bigger brain to fit all the stuff I’m learning! ha)

Thanks again to all three of you for all your tips. You are helping this Quark switcher (and InDesign lover!) immensely!

    Kerri
