InDesign 6.02 Update Released

It’s a beautiful Monday morning, and it appears that Adobe has released another mini bug-fixin’ update to InDesign CS4. As I type this, Adobe’s web site doesn’t show the official “what’s new in 6.02″ document, but we did find this list of bug fixes at another site:

  • “File type information for InDesign CS4 (version 6) is still IDd5 as it was for CS3 (version 5) – Mac.” (2265758)
  • “Content is dropped during Digital Editions Export when 2 or more documents are included in a book.” (2262891)
  • “EPV:(Reader for Word) InDesign crash importing Word file.” (2256271)
  • “Document takes a long time to open and causes an out of memory error followed by a crash.” (2253219)
  • “Crash when clicking on sample button with the vertical frame grid tool.” (1899123)
  • “Flattener Preview incorrectly calculates area of transparency for outer effects applied to text.” (2272674)
  • “InDesign CS4 will fail to convert/open CS3 documents with placed IC files containing tags in deleted text.” (2275056)
  • “Mac only: Documents containing a linked file with a forward slash in its file name fail to package.” (2278761)

I have updated to 6.02 via Help > Updates (using Adobe Updater), but haven’t had a chance to test the new build much. The Digital Editions fix would be extremely welcome, as that was a huge problem for anyone creating ePub files from book files in CS4.

Now what is it with the ‘direct to PDF’ when using DataMerge and variables that it can not be fixed…?

I just tested the Digital Editions Export function and can confirm that when exporting two or more documents from a book file, everything gets properly exported.

A little over 2 months and another update. Not too shabby. Let’s hope Adobe can keep this schedule up as I’m sure there are a lot of little bugs still out there. Thanks for the heads up!

How annoying! There is no mention of the update at the Adobe site at the time of writing. This is where I would have expected it and where I looked:

    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=31&platform=Macintosh

Call me paranoid (but not pirate – I forked out my cash), but I’d prefer to control my own downloading instead of letting Adobe do it.

Guess I’ll just have to wait for it, then. :(

Not that I have noticed anything much wrong with v6.01, I must add. :)

Thanks for the links, Jochen. The wait didn’t hurt a bit. ;)

We use the International English (IE) InDesign, a consequence of our regional Adobe dealer having only that one choice. As with the 6.0.1 updater before this, even though the updater says it is for “all languages”, after applying the update, InDesign opens to the enter registration number panel, and then won’t accept our IE license number any longer.

This forces a reinstallation of 6.0 all over again – back to square one. Sad. Inconvenient.

Since the 6.02 update I’ve twice had bizarre corruption in the links panel.
The first time, a bunch of Chinese characters substituted for the file path; the second, minutes ago, simply informed me that the linked file was missing. When I relinked (same file, in the same place — hadn’t moved itself) in both cases everything appeared to be normal again. But that’s a weird behavior I’ve never seen before.
