InDesign and InCopy 5.0.3 Update Available
These updates are now available via the Adobe Updater.
I expect they’ll show up on Adobe’s main download site very shortly along with release notes to list the issues that this patch addresses.
Here’s the info the updater gives for the update:
“This update provides key fixes in the areas of File Size, Hyphenation, Performance, Anchored Objects, Character Alignment, Step and Repeat, Indexing and Table of Contents, Text and Fonts, Dictionaries, Color, Scripting, Import/Export Graphics, InDesign Interchange files (INX), XML, Library files, Printing, and others. For a full list of resolved issues, please see the Adobe InDesign CS3 5.0.3 ReadMe.pdf at http://www.adobe.com/go/id5_readme. This installer includes fixes from all previously released InDesign CS3 5.0.x updates. Note that the previous InDesign 5.0.x updates are no longer available separately. ”
This better not break anything…
InDesign 5.0.3 seems to fix the application hide problem. (I also have installed the latest OS X 10.5.4 update!)
It doesn’t completely fix the hide issue for me (I also have 10.5.4 installed). After a fresh reboot, ID will not hide. But if I quit ID, then relaunch ID will hide without fail. But after a restart, it breaks until you relaunch.
Same exact experience as Fritz mentioned:
It doesn’t completely fix the hide issue for me as well. (I also have 10.5.4 installed on both work and personal computer). After a fresh reboot, ID will not hide. But if I quit ID, then relaunch ID will hide without fail. But after a restart, it breaks until you relaunch.
The release notes are still not 5.03 on the website, jut 5.02.
Can’t find anything on what is fixed in 50.3…
This version finally fixed the switched-around Inset Spacing parameters which happened with export-import of INX files. That bug had annoyed me quite a bit — so I’m happy we got a fix for this (though it’s been more than a year since the first release of CS3). Aside from that, I’ve not tested it much — seems fine, so far.
Ye, sorry, looks like I was wrong. Same experience as Fritz & James after a restart.
OK, so I kvetched about the lateness of this particular bugfix — which has been a bugaboo of mine. But in fairness to the InDesign team, I must add that this is the third point-update after the original CS3 release, for an average of four months between point-updates — which is pretty damn good for Adobe. I only wish we’d get equally frequent updates for Photoshop!
I have now used the ID 5.03 (for Win) 4-5 hours, and it’s behaving well on both my laptop and desktop. Of course, if you’re on a Mac you might not be so lucky as we Win users.
I’ve never noticed a need for a Photoshop bug fix. In all my years of using Photoshop on the Mac, it’s been about the ONLY program that runs flawlessly for me.
Since updating to 5.03, I am having intermittent crashes regarding copying and pasting between InDesign documnets.
I can’t copy a piece of text with an anchored object into another document using Paste without formatting.
And I tried copying a simple coloured box and a text with knockout white text frame over it into another document and it crashed again.
Any ideas? Or anyone having similar issues?
I’ve done quite a bit of basic copy & paste (text frames with and without tables and images with object styles) between InDesign docs without problems, and a quick test copying text from one doc to another using the “paste without formatting” option worked flawlessly also. Haven’t tried with an anchored object though.
Thanks Roland.
Seems to be with Pantone colours and/or anchored objects. Haven’t had time to try and resovle it, just seeing if there are other issues out there.
FWIW, I just tried a quick test copying and pasting some text that included an anchored object from one (just about new — all I’d done was create the above) document to another new document.
No problem at all.
So, there’s probably something about your particular situation, Eugene. Have you trashed preferences since the update?
Dave
I can copy a good bit of the text from one to the other. There’s just one line that won’t copy over.
It has:
With attached cheque for €(anchored box/stroked pantone colour) payments made payable to
I wish to pay by credit card (anchored box/stroked pantone colour)
Cart type: (anchored box/stroked box) etc.
It’s just the first bit paragraph that won’t copy, Indesign crashes.
And then later on I tried copying a coloured panotone box (pantone 377 c) , with a text frame containing white text into a document that has pantone 681 c (not sure if that makes a difference, this is my circumstance though).
In the ink manager for both files, the Spot colours are converted to CMYK.
I then switched that Spot to CMYK option off, same problem.
I can copy the text just fine. It will do that. But when I copy the coloured box (pantone 377) into the other document InDesign crashes.
I have trashed preferences and I am still getting the crash.
Thanks for the help so far, any more ideas?
