Another terrific podcast guys, thanks a million. It’s amazing how alive livedocs is becoming, the GREP search info on there is invaluable, it’s certainly come along since CS3 was released. The issue of the hidden characters intrigued me so much I spent a bit of time looking into it, even if you search in Google for InDesign Livedocs, it yields few results. That one topic of Hidden Characters was a GREAT troubleshooting hunt. Incredibly frustrating. A great distraction from what I’m supposed to be working on
Thank you for providing this (hopefully) temporary solution!
Hopefully OS producers soon offer a standardised way to define monitor resolution in a global environment variable, which is accessible by all applications. Then the computer knows how large objects are in reality, and many applications could make use of this!
Or if this doesn’t happen too soon, maybe at least Adobe starts offering “set screen resolution” in all its applications, actually only Photoshop offers this feature.
We mentioned how ligatures got broken into individual characters when kerning (but not tracking) was applied. Here’s a little more information about that from Tim Cole at the Backchannel.
I have a question regarding Autocorrect, related to the tip mentioned in this podcast. Autocorrect will work when typing words inside Indesign, but what about when placing text? I am sure most ID users don’t write their texts, and simply Place them into their documents.
Would Autocorrect change, for instance swearwords to use asterisks if the words are contained within a Placed text? If not, can AC be made to do so?
Jesse, I love the idea of Autocorrect working when placing stories. No, it currently only works when typing in ID (which more people do than you might expect). But please go to Adobe’s Contact Us page, click on Feedback, and send this idea to the InDesign team. If 5 or 10 people do this (and give reasons for why they want it), then the ID team really takes notice!
