Ha ha, I haven’t used Quark in one and a half years and I’m still pressing Cmd M (CTRL M).
Great podcast!
AM, you should get used to pressing Command+Shift+A and then W, it’s much quicker (and less annoying) than holding down the mouse to get to preview.
My first KBSC that I customize is “Inset Anchored Object/Go to Anchor Marker” under Text and Tables. It allows you to insert an anchored object according to your defaults and you can bypass the dialog box. Press it again and it brings you back to where you were in the text. A must have for anyone doing side-headings.
Being this is the KBSC post I think it’s important to mention a very annoying (possibly good) feature/annoyance on Windows.
You can’t use an Alt+letter keyboard IF you have somehow customized the the XP interface. The reason is because the OS takes them over to open menus and select menu items.
This can be very good for someone who likes to open menus with the keyboard, but I miss the ability to assign an Alt+letter keyboard shortcut.
There was a thread about this a while back on the forums and we found out it only manifests itself if you have customized the XP interface (uncustomizing doesn’t help), but we couldn’t figure out exactly what custmization it is. I think it’s changing the Start menu to Classic view.
CMD-H has been the KS for Hide Application since there was an application switcher back in System 7 or 8. I’ve used it regulary since then, although Expose lessens the need for it. It’s very handy to hide the current application when you’re working full screen and need access to the desktop quickly to grab a file. It’s also handy when you find yourself with 5 or 6 applications running, each with many or large windows and you need to clear out your monitor to find something. Like I said before though, I do find myself using it less frequently since OS X 10.4’s Expose, and even less with 10.5’s Spaces.
