Neato about the Click Alt Drag on table cells. I’ve always known about Alt dragging items to duplicate them, but never dawned on me for cells.
One thing with the Cells and “Exact” and “At Least”, I’m sure it was mentioned.
But a variant would be that if you had list of say Colleges, in rows etc. and you need to separate the different Colleges. And I do this by leaving a blank row of cells, it’s just an example.
Well sometimes you need to resize the blank cells to make the table fit on the page. But copying the size of the cell is a pain, as you want even spacing.
So simply select the table and change At Least to Exactly, make it a small number like (1.058mm) so everything gets overset.
Then change it back to At Least and enter the desired spacing, e.g., 5mm , then all the Cell sizes change to fit all the content.
And the blank row cells are all exactly 5mm.
And that’s a quick way to make all the Blank Row Cells in your Table be exactly the same size.
(Edit: I’m sure there is a reason why I did change to Exactly to At Least and back again, just don’t remember why. It works fine with just putting in an At Least figure too)
I’m not sure if that is what Anne-Marie was saying, but you heard it here second.
Thanks Dave and Anne-Marie for another great show. I have listened to you two since day one. I always learn something. I freelance so I’m spread across the entire Design Premium Suite and don’t have as much time with InDesign as I would like.
The tables info, great time saver. I would have paid for that tip! My clients have a need for a lot of tables so this will save me much irritation when adding rows/columns.
Loving CS4 and looking forward to all the in depth tips that you guys are famous for.
Keep up the outstanding work.
Thank you so much, Doug! That’s always wonderful to hear.
Some of my favorite parts of the podcasts are when David or I mention a tip or technique that the other one didn’t know, as what happened in this episode, a few times.
you guys are crackin me up this week. Hurray for A-M learnin stuff too.
Thanks to you both for another wonderful podcast. I listen to you as i run and i know people i pass are wondering what is in my water bottle (as i am always smiling!). Just a note about deleting a row in a table. If i heard you correctly, you said you click on ctl/delete to remove a roll. In CS3, it is actually Ctl/backspace.
Again, thanks for ‘running’ with me. I am looking forward to the ID Masters Class in Seattle. See you there!
