Thanks so much for sharing Sandee “Vectorbabe”. All I needed was that interactive PDF chapter. I first read your guide starting at Indesign 2!! Looking forward to experimenting with Indesign’s interactivity. Love your enthusiasm.

how do i put double quotation marks with out shifting the text over?

  3. February 20th, 2009 • 3:31 am • Link

Try checking the “optical margin alignment” box in “Story” under “Type”. Or try putting a hair space before the quotation mark, then setting the kerning between the two to about -500.

Just a note that we’ve updated all our ME prices to reflect Winsoft’s newest CS4 price lists. Most of the ME product line got a serious reduction in prices. Some products got reduced by hundreds of dollars!

@Harbs: Wow! That’s great. Much lower prices than before for the ME version. And the World Tools price is also lower than originally. Thanks for letting us know.

Just a quick note that when registering to download the free chapter of the VQS, I was also given a coupon good for 35% off the list price of the book, which dropped the price down to the no-brainer of $15.59!

I got so excited that I bought it before realizing that it had DRM. Oops. [I try to avoid DRMed purchases, but I guess this one will prove an accidental exception.]

    Adam,

I am sorry that you accidentally winded up with a DRM book.

My email address is in the front of the book. Please email me if you have any DRM problems.

I will make sure Peachpit knows about them.

Meanwhile I’m thrilled that you have the chapter as well as the book.

    Hey Sandee,

I appreciate that, and would prefer to buy non-DRMed stuff if at all possible. But in this case, it’s totally my fault for buying something without fully inspecting the packaging.

When I’m finished with my current project-of-doom, I look forward to curling up with your book and my laptop. :-)

Does anyone else get an “unable to decrypt PDF file” error when trying to open this download?

  10. February 23rd, 2009 • 7:16 am • Link

JK, I’m not getting that error. (And I just relogged-in to the Peachpit site fresh to download a fresh copy.)

Which version of Acro/Reader are you using?

@ JK: I got the same error. I am on Windows XP, downloaded using Safari. I will try again on a mac and see if it helps.

“There was an error opening this document. Acrobat cannot decrypt this document.”

    Acrobat 8 Pro on XP.

I got the decrypt error message too. So bummed! I want this pdf!

I also tried on a Mac, with no luck. Same decrypt error message. Acrobat 8 Pro Mac OS x.?

I have the same problem “Acrobat cannot decrypt this document.”
I also am using Acrobat 8 Pro on XP.
is there any fix for this? I am really interested if there is. From a hot Adelaide South Australia.

For those having issues on OS X — I went to Help -> Digital Editions in Acrobat and downloaded the Digital Editions reader, and the books works fine in there.

Check out the Before downloading this DRM-encrypted Adobe™ Reader™ PDF file, be sure to: sidebar on the right-hand side of the book’s page: http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=9780321573872

Thank you for trying to help. I downloaded & installed Adobe Digital Editions & activated it, then tried to open the PDF with it.

“Sorry, the file you are attempting to open cannot be opened by Digital Editions.”

So I went to Adobe’s DRM Activator and activated my Reader and Acrobat, but I still can’t open the PDF. I quit.

I just re-downloaded it fresh from the Peachpit site. On my Mac, it opens without a peep in Acrobat 9 or Reader 9. But if I try to open it with Acrobat 8 or Reader 8, I get the same “cannot decrypt” error.

We’ll let Peachpit know about this — not sure if they can do anything about it.

But in the meantime, you might want to download/install at least the free Reader 9 to open it, assuming you’re able to without compromising earlier versions of Acro/Reader on your computer. (It works perfectly fine on Macs — I’m still able to run Acro 8/Reader 8 — but I’m not sure about Windows.)

Everyone who is having trouble opening the online document.

You MUST use Acrobat 9 or Reader 9!

That is because of the SWF movies that were added.

They use an advanced feature in Acrobat 9 to play the movies.

However, if anyone is having trouble running the document in Read 9 or Acrobat 9, please contact me directly:

sandee at vectorbabe dot com. (You know how to transform the address into a live link.)

Ah … thanks for the clarification, Sandee!

Bizarre that Adobe couldn’t figure out a way to put up a clearer alert as to why earlier versions can’t open it though. sigh.

  22. March 6th, 2009 • 1:59 pm • Link

Soo… I tried to go the the URL that Sandee mentioned in the show. (peachpit.com/indesigncs4vqs) however, I can’t get to a PDF file. Rather, I get a register you ISBN# and now download options after that.

    Any help?

How do you create the roll-overs that enlarge the image as you pass over them – the ones you outlined in blue throughout your chapter?

I can’t find the option to do that anywhere, and I can’t find where you reference how to do it in your chapter. I’m using CS3, so perhaps it’s a CS4 specific thing?
