Bob: Putting the control panel at the bottom isn’t a matter of making it more like PM or QX. It’s a matter of customizing ID to make people more efficient. It’s like changing the Pages panel to show pages horizontally instead of vertically. It makes more sense to keep the important stuff (the page design) up higher and put the “inspector” stuff (as some other apps call it) down low.

That said, I tend to keep it up at the top when I’m demoing ID; otherwise, no one would know where to look!

I’ve always docked the Control Pannel at the bottom because I’m an old Pagemaker user.

I agree about learning things the ID way, it pays off in the long run especially when you switch to any other CS product, after a while you’ve forgotten the old methods. That said though, sometimes even years on, I find myself hitting the Control key to activate the Zoom Tool, shame there isn’t a work around for that one.

BTW, love the new theme tune to Obscure InDesign Feature of the Week!

PM had that stuff on the bottom, too. When I switched I realized the best way to do so was to not try and make InDesign like anything but InDesign.

That’s why I advise people to ignore the PM and Quark KBSC sets.

The sooner you think InDesign, the sooner you’ll know InDesign.

I always tell people that you can dock it at the bottom if you want it like Quark and you really really want to hate life you can choose “float” and it will float around and get in your way.
