I have used “Add items on page as separate objects” in the past when creating libraries. Back in the InDesign CS days, I used to work on large (600+ page) catalogs. We would frequently place quite a few company logos all over the pages in the catalog. In order to make it easier to place the logos on the page, I created a library of all of the logos. I first placed every logo in a blank page of a document and then used the “Add items on page as separate objects” feature to add them all to the library.

Today I would never bother with this because I would just use mini bridge to drag and drop the actual logos into the layout.

James – I used to do something similar but I always hated mini bridge. I would place all the logos on a Master Page – then use New Window and ALT (OPTION) drag and drop from there to the layout.

Mini Bridge though has surpassed this workflow :D

    Or even better

Placing them in a text frame off the paste board, but leave the text frame touching the page edge. Then the logos are available on every spread!

Thanks for the tip on Nigel French’s book. I bought it as an e-book and kept switching between the book and an InDesign project I was working on. The book was a great help.

Nigel’s book is terrific. It sits on my shelf beside Robert Bringhurst’s “Elements of Typographic Style” as a valuable resource.
