Great video!

I have a glitch when exporting EPUB files, and was wondering if anyone else had this same issue.

If I select the TOC style, some of the chapters in my epub file convert curly quotes and em-dashes to gibberish!

If I do NOT select a TOC style, the curly quotes and em-dashes come out correctly, but of course I get no TOC!

I'm hoping to upgrade to CS5 soon, but thot I'd ask if anyone else had this glitch in cs4, and maybe knew how to correct it.

Thanks!

Good stuff, David and Anne-Marie! Thanks. My only request: get a pop filter for the microphone -- or speak to the side of it to prevent popping P's, etc. :)

To add a cover image for iBookstore, add the epub to iTunes, then right-click it and select Get Info. Choose Artwork and drag your artwork in (or browse to load it).

Thanks David, the fonts were the issue I was having. I'm now having problems with getting a thumbnail of the cover to show up when the book is on the "bookshelf". Do you know how to add that?

@Jason: Perhaps you need to not embed the font? For more ideas, I suggest posting this on the forums at: http://indesignsecrets.com/forum/
(You'll need to sign up for a free membership in order to post there.)

@Polly: I did hear something about this, I think from Liz Castro. Might check with her.

I'm having some problems viewing my exported ePub file. I can't use Adobe Digital solutions, because I don't have Admin access on my machine, and the installer won't let me choose anywhere except the Applications folder. I was able to install the B&N reader, but when I try to open it there, it says my ePub is encrypted. How do I make an unencrypted file?

Have you heard of any issues with exporting Spanish and Canadian French to epub files? Do you have any resources to any related articles about foreign language ebooks?

@CRM: In CS5 you don't need to have 50 files anymore; you can autosplit the chapters based on a top-level heading in the TOC. But in CS4 and earlier, having separate files is somewhat necessary. Ugh.

Hi!

A question about splitting my file first and creating a book. What are the pros of that vs. the cons? What if I have a file with over 50 chapters - I don't want 50+ files.

Thanks!

Colin Fleming (the TOC commentor above) is from Adobe, and is doing a session on ePub at Adobe MAX next week in LA (sorry I'll have to miss it!). Here's the description of his session from http://max.adobe.com/:

"Learn best practices and step-by-step instructions on how to take your content from creation to publication to distribution on eBook readers such as Reader Digital Book, Kindle, and iPhone. This session is organized into three sections: layout of books using Adobe InDesign, export of a book from InDesign to Adobe Digital Editions, and conversion of a book into the appropriate file format for use on a particular reading device. Leave this session with best-practices techniques and practical guidance on how to build eBooks for digital distribution."
