Mystery of the Hobbled Hyperlinks Contest Answer and Winner!
It’s time to reveal the solution—and the winners—for this month’s InDesignSecrets contest!
Here’s the scenario:
You’ve created a lovely layout for an interactive document, complete with several hyperlinks. You can see the hyperlinks are all present and in good working order by the way they appear in the Hyperlinks panel.
You ask a co-worker to output the document to PDF and make sure the hyperlinks are working. But they report back that none of the hyperlinks works in the PDF, even though they all appear to be OK in InDesign.
Why are the hyperlinks not working in the PDF?
The answer is that the PDF was exported to Adobe PDF (Print) format, and that the Hyperlinks option was not selected in the export dialog box. If you export to Adobe PDF (Interactive) hyperlinks will always be enabled in the PDF. But if you use the print format, you have to make an effort to include them. All of the default print PDF presets that ship with InDesign like [High Quality Print], [Press Quality], and all of the PDF/X settings do not include hyperlinks in the exported PDF.
You can create your own custom preset or modify one of the default presets to include hyperlinks, bookmarks, and interactive elements.
If you choose to include bookmarks, you’ll automatically get hyperlinks too.
And the winner of this contest is…
Jack Sidler
Jack wins a 1-year subscription to an InDesign plug-in from Teacup Software! There are three great options to choose from: BarcodeMaker, DataLinker or PatternMaker.
Thanks to everyone who entered, and be on the lookout for another contest with a new great prize next month!
In this contest also my luck failed……!
