Prevent Crashing After Installing the Version Cue Update

5

Adobe posted an important tech note about how to solve a crashing problem which can occur for some Macintosh users after installing the Adobe Version Cue CS3 3.1.0 update. The crashes can occur in InDesign CS3 and other Adobe Creative Suite 3 applications.

Read the tech note for the details if you’re having crashing problems when saving, opening, or placing a file. The note provides a link to a script you can run which should solve the problem. The problem occurs when the Version Cue update was not successfully completed and one of the framework files used by Version Cue is damaged.

This can occur on Macintosh computers running Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.x) or Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5.x).

Steve Werner is a trainer, consultant, and co-author (with David Blatner and Christopher Smith) of InDesign for QuarkXPress Users and Moving to InDesign. He has worked in the graphic arts industry for more than 20 years and was the training manager for ten years at Rapid Lasergraphics. He has taught computer graphics classes since 1988.
  • Anne-Marie says:

    great info, thanks, Steve.

  • I believe that the problem can affect anybody, whether or not they’re using Version Cue.

    Dave,

That’s the way I read the tech note also. Since many people routinely install whatever shows up in the Adobe Updater, simply installing the update and having it fail to install correctly could apparently cause the problem, whether or not you actually used Version Cue.

  • Note that Mordy Golding has a nascent Version Cue blog going.

  • Sam Wilczak says:

Thanks Steve, that helped me out.
