QX7 and Printing Problems

November 28th, 2006
Written by Steve Werner

Those of us who are long-time users of InDesign have endured years of insinuations on user forums that InDesign documents or the PDF files created from them won’t print properly. So it’s with some amusement that I post the instructions given to Quark users on the Web site of Modern Postcard:

“*Quark 7.0 Note:

“We are currently in the process of testing the newly released version of Quark 7.0. With all the new features available, we want to ensure your files will not have any printing problems with our current software and workflow.

“If you are using Quark 7.0 please use an earlier version of Quark if available, save your files as an earlier version (6.5 or below) or export a PDF using our recommended settings.

“Please be aware that any PDF using the new Quark 7.0 features may cause unwanted issues and you will be contacted accordingly. Thank you as we complete the testing process.”

I agree it’s rather amusing, but we (commercial printer with sheet-fed and web presses) have only seen one QuarkXPress 7.0 job since its’ release.

  2. Flip an image (vertically or horizontally or both) in QXP7 and print it in composite mode or in separation mode. The image will output reflipped again !

We have not received many files from Quark 7 since the release, and that’s a good news!
We are asking everybody here to avoid making PDF from the “Export to PDF” command. Theses PDFs failed on our imposition software and they also cannot be reliable for output in our large format photographic RIP.

Even if Quark 7 as some cool features, it feel so 1990 that I avoid it as much as I can.

PS: Branislav, I don’t see your image reflipped on output problem.
