Supporting Scott Citron’s Recovery

Many of you have heard about Scott Citron, our colleague and friend (and author of Professional Design Techniques), who was in a car accident a month or so ago in Los Angeles. He’s recently (finally!) been released from the hospital and is continuing to have physical therapy and other procedures to return to health. Many folks have been trying to find ways to help Scott, who now faces a mountain of medical bills and lost income. It’s great to see the design community come together to help someone who has been as giving over the years as Scott.

In case you want to help, we just wanted to pass on a few options:

  • Online Auction: Erica Gamet, the InDesign User Group chapter representative in Denver, has posted an online auction site here. They have a variety of items on auction, including software (including InDesign, Creative Suite, and so on), services, books, and subscriptions. Hurry! The online auction will close on September 15 at 5:00p.m. EST.
  • Café Press gear: In Scott’s own inimitable style, he reported that “This sucks” after waking from the crash. (In all fairness, his wife insists he didn’t actually say this, but it sounds so much like him, that we’d rather overlook her objective words and believe in the good one-liner instead.) Sandee Cohen has immortalized these words by creating some cool gear, which you can find at this Café Press store.
  • Paypal: Bob Levine, Michael Murphy, and Terry Perito (Scott’s brother-in-law) have set up a paypal account to collect donations. You can donate by visiting getwellscottcitron.blogspot.com and clicking on the “Donate” button found on that page.

Or buy his book! Buy another one for an early holiday gift for someone! It’s worth it.

I would like to send a money order to Scott’s address that I have but would’nt be easier if I send it to the name of his wife ? So it is easier to cash it without Scott’s signature ?…

That is very kind of you Branislav, but I think that is not necessar. Besides, honestly, if it is possible to do the dontaion via paypal.com, that would be preferable to everyone. No?

I bought his book. Hope that helps. Don’t know how much he gets of the profits from that.

I don’t have a credit card and an insufficient amount of money on my PayPal account to make a decent donation.

I’m in on the auction and probably the gear.

I’m not sure how to get word to Scott but I’ve learned a couple of things over the years about physical therapy. The call it PT. It actually stands for “physical terrorism” or alternatively “pain and torture”. It sounds like Scott already has the absolute essentials for a recovery though…great friends and a “sick and twisted” sense of humor!

    Blessing and prayers Scott!

First of all, thanks David and Anne-Marie for devoting this page to my recovery. Second, thanks to those of you who can help through a very tough time. Many have already been very generous and I greatly appreciate your contributions, regardless of size. Even if you don’t contribute, I love hearing from you. My accident was pretty bad, and I’m lucky to have survived it so well. The support I’ve gotten has been instrumental in my recovery, and I’m forever grateful.

Yes, I’m currently in PT in Los Angeles and hope to back in New York by mid-October. Please feel free to contact me at scott@scottcitrondesign.com.

    Yours truly,
    Scott
