This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 100
As we head toward the Winter Solstice (or the Summer Solstice for some of you!) our minds turn toward? well, InDesign of course! What else would our minds turn toward?!
- Do you teach? Or you’re a student? Check out the Adobe for Academics site. I hadn’t seen that before, and there’s a lot of good InDesign stuff there. For example, here’s a movie from there, at Adobe.tv on Designing an Eye-Catching Poster.
- Adobe has announced the winners of its No App is an Island contest, including our own Kelly Vaughn!
- Em Software has released version 2.0 of InData, with new support for text anchors, hyperlinks, and cross-references in prototypes; and other changes. We love InData, so this is great news! They also released an update to their Xtags for InDesign product.
- Want to add headers or footers to your document, with master pages and automatic page numbers? Vikrant at Adobe shows you how!
- Here’s a tut on How to Add Texture to an Illustration in Adobe InDesign
- Speaking of free, some crazy guy (okay, me?) wrote an article on 20 Free Must-Have Scripts for InDesign Users.
- I don’t remember seeing this one from Kelly V. on the point order used by the Corner Effects Script. (This free script, which comes with InDesign, isn’t as important, but it still lets you do some amazing things that InDesign normally doesn’t let you do.)
Interactive, EPUB, and DPS
- Diane Burns shows a good trick about how to find your DPS version number.
- Here’s an interesting article, called Why Magazine Apps Suck. One of my favorite lines: “First, if your publication is over 100MB, quit immediately. You’ve failed.”
- Time Inc is now publishing Real Simple using Adobe DPS, which means Adobe now powers the top 5 consumer magazine publishers.
- Adobe’s DPS can now do Sections — so readers can now download just a section of a larger publication.
More Stuff
- Like free fonts? Who doesn’t? Here’s 10 free slab serifs.
- Speaking of fonts, if you haven’t yet seen this movie called Futura Gold, you have to. Awesome!
- Remember the game Space Invaders? Want to play it inside InDesign? Crazy scary!
- Vikrant is back, this time with a fun downloadable ruler for designers (free pdf download).
Enjoy!
