This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 132
It’s springtime and InDesign is popping up all over! But no matter what time of year it is when you read this, you should check out these terrific blogs posts, articles, videos, and more about InDesign.
- If you’re on the Mac and using Creative Cloud (CC), make sure you’re working with OS X 10.9 or later.
- Have you heard about the new upcoming Adobe Publish (sort of the “next generation DPS”)? Here’s an interesting article about FastCo Magazine, creating the first example of it.
- This new plug-in, currently in beta, called Evolving Layout looks awesome — like “variations on a theme” for your layouts!
- Read how “Digital Is Not a Strategy” and other important lessons from the Failure of Digital Magazines to Revolutionize Publishing.
- Using InDesign for UX/UI design? Take a look at the Smashing Magazine visual design starter pack.
- Here’s a short video on how to download scripts and install them in InDesign. (I disagree with her about putting scripts inside the application folder. I prefer the User folder, as Anne-Marie shows in this article.)
- Check out this awesome video title called Creating HTML Layouts in InDesign at lynda.com by Justin Putney
- Why (and how) to use white space in InDesign
- Here’s a nice focused tutorial on How to make a brochure with InDesign by Nathan Brutzman (who used to be on the InDesign team!)
- And here’s another one by Kevin Stohlmeyer on How to create and print business cards
- Anyone who uses Acrobat (especially the Acrobat team at Adobe!) needs to read Kelly Vaughn’s article about why she uses four three versions of Acrobat.
- Oh my gosh, that April Fools joke post about InDesign on the Apple Watch looks more real than ever, now that I see how Adobe is making teeny tiny apps. (If you don’t have an Apple Watch, don’t forget you can make your own with this InDesign technique.)
- I really like Adobe Comp. Here’s a short piece about Khoi Vinh and how Comp came about.
- I don’t usually link to my own articles—and especially not articles from 7 years ago—but I just spent 2 hours troubleshooting why a Word document wouldn’t import into InDesign properly. I could have saved myself a lot of time if I had just remembered this tip about how Word sometimes bases paragraph styles on other styles (and how InDesign doesn’t like that).
Happy InDesigning!
