This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 97
Oh, we have all kinds of great stuff for you today! First I want to point out two great offers for InDesignSecrets readers:
- DTP Tools is offering 20% off the Blatner Tools suite of plug-ins until the end of November. Just use the coupon 12IDSECRETS20 (but you can download a fully-functioning demo version to try it out first).
- Recosoft is offering a 20% discount off PDF2ID v3.5 (Standard or Professional) until the end of October! Use the promo code ID_Secrets to get this great deal!
Okay, now on to some articles and videos you really ought to know about:
- If you want to learn how to make PDF forms in InDesign, here’s a clever InDesign document created by someone at Adobe that will help.
- Here’s an awesome, huge, and super geeky grep code to find anything that looks like a URL.
- Got a few minutes? Here’s some videos to watch:
- Mike Rankin showing how to make a peeling sticker effect (and read about it here):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPben33m3c0
- Mr. Rankin showing how to make a rough cut-out and taped effect (and read about it here):
- Here’s designer Graham Peace talking about why he likes Adobe’s DPS Single Edition (and here’s a PDF with his case study)
- Here’s a great little article from the Atlantic on the creation of a custom Arabic font for the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, designed by Dr. Mamoun Sakkal (who happens to live near me? very nice guy!)
- Yes, typography counts! “Study that Links Typeface Style with Reduced Driver Distraction Risk.”
- Adobe has released some new free Edge fonts, but they’re also working with Google to release their web fonts through typekit. More on that here.
- Blurb.com makes amazing printed custom photo books? and now blurb can create rich media eBooks for tablets, too! Even better, they have InDesign plug-ins that help you get the job done.
- Interested in InDesign Server for automation solutions? Max Dunn at Silicon Publishing has started writing a number of excellent and insightful blog posts recently on the topic. They do amazing web to print automation solutions for Hallmark Cards and many other clients.
Enjoy!
David, excellent post as usual. I tried to purchase PDF2ID, unfortunately the coupon code did not work.
@Lenny: Please try again… just heard back from Recosoft. There was a delay in getting it up and running, but it should work now.
Thanks David, I made the purchase but unfortunately the download from digitalriver is timing out…help.
Several weeks ago, I had trouble downloading PDF2ID from Digital River: it looked like the download went okay but then the downloaded file disappeared. Eventually I realized Norton Internet Security had quarantined the file, and I had to open up NIS to un-quarantine it. I wrote Recosoft to let them know, and they answered promptly, assuring me the file was safe, and I thought they said the quarantine issue was fixed.
David
@David, Recosoft sent a direct download link.
