Hi guys, is there a shortcut to activate the text frames I have from my master pages in one move on ALL my normal pages?
Now I have to cmd+shift on every facing page independently to activate the text frame from my master page to enter text… It would be so much easier to activate them in one move when I’m making a book (of for examples 40 pages) and placing a text from Word with connected text frames in all the frames at once… -

If you place your textframe on a independent layer, and lock the other layers, then you can go to the pages-panel, and select alle pages and “Unlock all masterpage items”. Then all your text frames, on all pages will be unlocked, but everything else will still be locked to your masterpage.

Is it the same as ‘override all master page items’? Because I didn’t find ‘unlock all master page items’ and clicked on ‘override all master page items’. It has the same effect! Thanks!

But you do not need to unlock ANY text frames when placing a Word file! Just place then shift-click on the first page. Please see Sandee Cohen’s “101” article in issue 59: https://creativepro.com/issues/issue-59-grip-grep

I’m working in InDesign CC 2019, and I can’t select one item that lives on the master page. For as long as I can remember (20+ years), CTRL + SHIFT + click selects an element that is populated from the master page. I can select 1 element with that key + click, but not another one. No special layers, nothing locked, etc. I even moved to the object to the front, in case that was an issue. Is anyone else having this problem?

@Susan: Is there a dotted line around the object? If not, then it’s possible that someone turned off “Allow Master Overrides on Selection” while on the master page. When that is off, there is no way to override a master page object.

There is a dotted line around the object, but that’s because it’s a button. I was able to select the same object on other document pages, but not on the page where I needed to select it. I don’t think I’ve ever used the option to “prevent object overrides” and it was not applied to this object.
I was eventually able to select it after I reapplied the master page. I feel certain it’s a bug, but not sure how to replicate it.
Thanks for your suggestion, though!
