      Hello,

I have a very odd problem with my scripts in InDesign. I have many scripts I use daily and I recently noticed that none of them would work..not one. My business just moved to a new location and I noticed that whenever I had a certain server mounted on my mac…none of the Indesign Scripts will work. I click on the script in ID and I just get a “beep” sound as if there was an error and it does nothing. Once I dismount that server, the script will work just fine. Again it is all the scripts (10 or so total)…not just a select few. I was pretty proud of myself that I figured that part out, but that was as far as I got. I’m not an IT person, but from what I understand this server is just a huge amount of space that myself and several other artists store and access jobs.

I haven’t gone to my IT dept, but I don’t think they will be much help. I was wondering if anyone has had the same issue?

Prior to our move everything worked just fine with the same scripts but of course a different server.

Sorry for the long explanation…and sorry if this isn’t truly a ID scriptss topic!

Wow. That is very strange behavior. I was going to say something about how maybe you don’t have proper permissions on your machine (though that usually only affects installing scripts, not running them). But the fact that they work when the server is not available is truly odd.

Are these all scripts? Like even the ones in the Samples folder that come with InDesign? Or perhaps only custom scripts you have?

You could try launching the InDesign application that is on your hard drive, then open one of your documents and see if your scripts work.

Thank you both for your comments.

David – I think you are onto something! I just tested the sample scripts that come with ID do in fact work. I never tested those. (sadly I don’t use those ones much)
So the ones that won’t work are custom. For example unlock all, reposition content, Quotes to Foot and Inches, batch convert to name a few. I just remembered there are versions of these scripts saved on the server in question, but I can’t imagine that would cause issues. This is from InDesign CC, but I also have the same problem from 5.5.

I’ll take the stored scripts off the server. I will also take them all out of ID and re-install to test one at a time.

maggs – The files I’ve been testing have been created from InDesign that is on my mac and are files that have not been to the server yet. There aren’t any apps on the server, just a storage place for jobs and common links we all use in our ID files.

Again…this might not be a true script topic…but thanks for you help.

Some time back (while still using CS6) my custom User scripts quit working. The sample scripts worked just fine, but anything in that User folder wouldn’t run. On a whim, I copied my user scripts into the Application folder, and they work just fine.
When I upgraded to CC, I hoped the problem would magically fix itself, but it didn’t. I created a new folder in “Application” called “My real scripts” and everything appears to work just fine that way.

Thank You suzerp! That worked perfect. Once I read your email I also noticed all my sample scripts were in the applications folder, but my custom scripts were in my users/library/preferences folder. After moving them to the applications folder (like the sample scripts) everything worked! thank you…thank you..thank you…

What can I say, I have had issues with a custom script for months, even had to revert from CC to CS6 as it still worked there. Today nothing, really weird, but as as far as I know nothing has been changed or updated with my CS6 (all updates are set to manual). Looks like moving it into the Application scripts panel folder did the trick! Cheers guys. Any idea what could be the root cause of the problem?
