Our Mac-based business has been functioning for years running InDesign and other Adobe apps with the aid of Linotype’s free Font Explorer X. But of course this doesn’t automatically open fonts for ID CC or CS6, and it’s getting pretty long in the tooth in other ways too.
I would value advice from other members about what they consider the best Mac font manager here in the last half of 2013. We don’t want to spend money we don’t need to; but managing our burgeoning font collection is an ongoing issue, and I’m looking for what the best solution may be going forward for the next few years.
I’d also value any links to helpful discussions about font management issues.

It works great with all the Adobe CS apps including CC.
It is not free but not expensive either…about $60 I think per license…..well worth it! -

I’m using Universal Type Server 3 from extensis. Not cheap but very good for managing fonts in the prepress. As it says “server based”. Fonts are in one place and an admin can manage the fonts easily.

I have used Linotype’s free Font Explorer X forever also and wondered if you have changed your manager
and any advise on what occurred. Thanks -

Sorry Alex – a difficult year has forced me to defer decisions like this, so I’m still making do with Font Explorer X. FWIW, I will probably upgrade an old Extensis Suitcase licence, which will save me a little when compared with Linotype FontExplorerPro, which I see as the other major contender. My sense is that there’s really not much to tell between the Extensis and Linotype offerings – both ought to do a very good job.

Nice question. I just use RightFont from https://rightfontapp.com I think it is the best one.

Universal Type Manager/Client is the best, most stabile and the easiest way to handle fonts. We have used Suitcase, Font Explorer and now UT, and UTM is clearly the bst of them.
