      Hi,

I’m hoping the massed brains here can assist me with a problem.

I am producing a catalogue which uses a plug-in to pull in text and images from a relational database. If I edit copy pulled in from the database, then re-import the data from the database, it wipes my amendments.

The data in my document is pulling in curly quotes for inch marks. I have tried reimporting the data with ‘Use Typographer’s Quotes’ toggled off, but this still pulls in curly quotes.

I was wondering if it was possible to create a style sheet to turn curly quotes to straight ones?

Due to compatibility issues with the database software I’m using CS 5.0 (Mac).

      Many thanks,

      Keith

So far as I know, you can’t control that via style sheets.

      What plug-in are you using?

I’m using STEP’n’Design, the plug-in which links STEP by Stibo Systems to Indesign.

It’s a shame you can’t control whether you are using typographer’s quotes or not using a stylesheet checkbox. Same goes for the Change Case options.

Anyway, I fixed my problem by reimporting the data on a different machine with Typographer’s Quotes turned off. I don’t know why it didn’t work on my machine, but there you go.

I’m glad you got it working, and that it was your machine that was the culprit.

I don’t see any need for stylesheets to control typographers quotes. I think the main preferences suffice. And the preference applies to all stylesheets anyway. It would just be redundant.

So far as change case options–I think this was discussed at one time, and it’s not as easy as it sounds to program.
