      So here is my problem:
I need to compare two indesign files, an older and a newer. (lot of text, images, styles) and send the differences for translation. I already have the translation of the oldest and i have to insert the translated parts to match the source really accurately. I can compare two pdf’s to see the differences but it would be more effective to do it in Indesign, and the second part is totally messed up. Have you guys ideas for me? Thanks in advance!

Do you mean just compare the text content?
It’s possible using IDML files and a CAT (computer-aided translation) tool:
      – export file 1 to IDML
      – import it to a CAT tool
      – make all translations the same as the original text
      – export file 2 to IDML
      – using the same translation memory, import file 2 to the CAT tool
      – auto-fill with translations from the translation memory
      – find the “blanks” which will appear if anything isn’t the same.

We are going to try this for the first part of the workflow thanks many times!!
Maybe have you got any ideas for the second part as well? (Insert the new translation accurately back to the older translation?) I would really appriciate it. Thank you!

Postscript – this whole process would be easier if the first translation had been done via IDML and a CAT tool, but apparently you’re copying and pasting the translations into InDesign?

        Chris:
Well it was done in a CAT tool but for some business purposes the translation company did not keep the translation memories, so they made their clients pay a lot more money. I dont know the whole story but shortly now our company have to cut those parts out of the documents wich needs translations (from english documents) and insert them back when they are translated to the older translation, without mess up the whole document. We made a workflow for it (kinda) but it depends too much on human power and I’m looking for a more efficient way. It would be a real pleasure to compare the indesign documents directly, and cut out the pdf comparation, basically I appriciate any idea. If you have any more question I would be happy to answer them.

Thanks for the ideas! Unfortunately we are working in CS6, so those scripts are not working at this concept, and we use adobe acrobat pro wich has a built in pdf comparator. Basically I would like to kow that InDesign CS6 has a built in feature or some kind of plugin wich compares two indesign documents and makes a new document with the different content in it. (i know its kind of a dream but hey, it worth a try)
