Even vertical wrapping around object

  I have a multi-column layout, with a graphic spanning two columns. because of other objects on the page, the text lines are not lined up, and so the wrapping is off around the image. Currently I have the text justified vertically, but I’ve tried it with that off as well. If I keep adjusting the top & bottom offset, I can usually get the lines even, but then the padding is not the same on top and bottom. Is there a suggested way to make this look best? Thanks, this forum has been so helpful!

  Is the text set to align to baseline grid? Would that help? Then if the text wrap padding is set to be the same above and below, that ought to work out right?

    You would check the leading and starting point for your baseline grid in the ID preferences.
    
    To align to baseline grid, that would be in your paragraph style sheet.

  Thanks. Under Grids, Start is set to .5 in, Increment Every: 12pt.
  
  Horizontal:
  
  Gridline Every: 1in
  Subdivisions: 8
  
  Vertical:
  
  Gridline Every: 1 in
  Subdivision: 8
  
  Should something be changed?
  
  I went into edit my paragraph style also, but didn’t see anything about it.

    The ones you want to adjust are you baseline grids (top of the dialogue box).
    
    You will put in the leading of your job (which is increment), and at the top of the page you give it a starting point. For example, I’m currently working on a job that has 17 point leading, and he start point for my first baseline grid is 4p10.
    
    In your paragraph styles you go to “Indents and spacing.” From the drop down where it says “Align to Grid” you select “All lines.”

    Kind of a late reply to this, but I’m still having the issue. I am not sure I’m understanding. I see where to adjust “Increment Every” but will that potentially throw off the alignment on the other pages?
    
    I’ve pasted a link to a screenshot below of the issue. I set the vertical alignment to “Justify,” and this is what I get. Sometimes it’s better and sometimes worse, but it rarely is equal spacing above and below the object. Thanks!

  Dwayne is talking about baseline grids, but it does not appear that you have Align to Baseline Grid turned on for your paragraphs. That is one way to ensure that the lines really do “line up.”

  I noticed you said that you set the vertical alignment to justify. That is what is causing the problem. David’s first link explains that. Basically–your are overriding the leading values. I’m not sure if this page justified because of a bad break (i.e., widow/orphan) or if the straddle head is not on even lines.
  
  I’m not sure how to explain it, but you always want your leading to add up.
  
  For example, let’s say your leading is 12 for body text. And let’s say you have a 2-line display head that is on 14 lead. That means the depth is now off by two points. So you have to have the space above/below the head add up to 12’s (i.e., 12, 24, 36). So if you had 10 points space above the head, you’d be back to even lines (14 + 10 = 24).
  
  I always use absolute leading and don’t have vertical alignment justified, nor do I lock things to baseline grid. It’s all about the leading and the space above/below different elements adding up.
  
  I’ll look around and see if there is an article on it. But hopefully someone else can chime in and explain it better than I am trying to.
