I’ve exported an ePub (from ID CC 2014)to version 2.0.1. When I view it on my iPad it has 187-189 (depending on if I view it in portrait or landscape) extra blank pages at the end of the document. There are no extra pages at the end of the InDesign file, nor are there extra xhtml files in the OEBPS folder. This does not occur when I view the ePub in Adobe Digital Editions.

Interesting. Does the ePub have the same issues when you export it from the previous version of CC? Also, could you post a link from Dropbox or Google Drive to your InDesign file?

Thanks for responding. I wouldn’t be able to open the CC 2014 file in an earlier version. And unfortunately due to a nondisclosure agreement I can’t post the InDesign file. I don’t know if it means anything, but I exported the ePub to .mobi using Kindlegen and there were no extra pages at the end.

True, you would have to export it as an .idml file before you could open it in CC. No worries, I understand about the NDA and wouldnt want to get you in any trouble. I was going to say that it sounds like a white space issue at the end of the document and was going to check for overflow text, just thinking there might be some page breaks or just a long run of hard returns that might be at the end that could be causing that. I haven’t run across this personally so I’m just trying to shoot some ideas of things to look for at the end of the document that could be causing this. That’s interesting that KindleGen stripped it out.

I already checked for overset text. The out port on that page is empty. Note this problem does not appear when I view the ePub in ADE, just in iBooks on an iPad.

I took your advice and exported the file to IDML, then opened it in CC. I had to fix some garbled styles, but the extra pages in iBooks went away. Must be some CC 2014 bug.

Oh good, I’m glad to hear that worked for you. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that bug with CC2014 in my eBook projects.

It happened again. 80 extra pages in a 128-page ePub made with CC 2014, only when viewed on an iPad. Again exported to IDML, opened in CC, re-exported to ePub, no extra pages in this version. Am I the only person seeing this?

I’m so sorry Clark, I have not encountered this problem.
You’re exporting to reflowable epub? Have you tried exporting to epub 3 to see if it makes any difference?

I get the same amount of extra pages with both version 2.0.1 and 3.0. It’s nothing I can’t deal with. Just have to remember to use CC when I’m doing an ePub layout. Curious to know if anyone has encountered this bug.
