I’m attempting this but it’s just a hot mess, even simple 2 page layouts. I went big and tried it on our magazine, but that didn’t turn out great. I’m using a font called “Scene Pro” and it’s opentype, plus I have some Wingding characters in there.
Any good ePub3 readers for Android out there? Any I’ve tried it looks awful in it and Adobe Digital Editions doesn’t even support the format.
What ePub reader are you using to test it on a Windows or Mac platform?
I just can’t get a good layout from the Fixed Layout ePub export.

Hi,
For MAC ibooks is the preferable reader to test with.
For Win or MAC also, Readium, Chrome application for ebook can show to an extent the expected outcome.~Monica Singh

Thanks for that.
Unfortunately, it’s so flaky and I can’t control who will be opening the files – so I guess it’s not for me. I can’t expect others with lack of technical knowledge to download separate eReaders to view these files.

Fixed layout epub format is too new for general “downloading from our website” imo, unless you put up big notices about how it’s diff than a reflowable and what apps to use etc.
But fwiw, Google Play on Android should be able to open and read them but I haven’t tested myself:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.books&hl=enFixed layout is more for uploading to iBookstore for now, anyone purchasing from there should be able to read it on their iPad or Mac.

Thanks Anne-Marie – I’ll test it further then – I think the main goal is to get it up on the Apple products first.
I need to revisit this.

Anne-Marie, what about converting FXL EPUB to KF8? Just curious if you’ve heard any positive results from such a conversion.

The Kobo Android and iOS apps also read fixed-layout EPUBs well.
