Infrequent Indesign CC user here…who is attempting to move a hundred or so footnotes in a book chapter into an endnotes section at rear of book. Years ago, I used Miguel Sousa’s script. It worked great, but I can’t find it now. So, I deployed Peter Kahrel’s free script (Thanks, Peter!) at https://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/foot_to_endnote.html. Endnotes are created just fine, but when I go to apply my endnotes style to the newly created endnote text, things go sideways: the endnote numbers will not accept my style, but text does…in fact the new endnote numbers disappear. Nor will the new numbers accept any highlighting. Thoughts?

If someone knows of an alternate footnote to endnotes script which I might try, I’d sure appreciate it.

      Thank you.

Vic, Peter’s script is usually what we recommend. I haven’t run into the problem you’re having. I’ll have to check that out.
In the meantime, you can find Miguel’s script here: https://creativepro.com/downloads/Footnotes2Endnotes_v23.zip

      Vic,

The endnotes are numbered using InDesign’s paragraph numbering, that’s why you can’t format the numbers manually. Use a character style in the paragraph style’s set-up. If you haven’t changed anything to the styles as they’re set up by the script, the numbers should appear. Don’t understand what that doesn’t happen. If you post your document somewhere I’ll investigate.

      Hi Peter —

Thanks for the tip. I shoulda thought about styles. This was for a single new chapter in a second edition. I design my own books. The next book is about ready for the conversion…I’ll look forward to using your script. Sure appreciate you making it available.
