I came across this excellent script for creating ultimate contact sheets in inDesign called ImageCatalog that has saved me hours and hours of work.

My problem at the moment is I have no control over how the images are imported into inDesign, I would like them sorted by filename ie cc1.jpg, cc2.jpg, cc3.jpg, instead they are sorted by cc1.jpg, cc10.jpg, cc11.jpg and so on.

The cc in the file name is a code for a category and I have 50 categories with different codes preceding the numbers, ie ga1 to ga72, hr1 to hr50 and so on.

Is there anyway to override this setting in inDesign or would the script have to be modified?
I am not very familiar with Java code I know how to run a script but not edit one.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Is it possible to rename your images? If you have 100 files in CC, than the first should be CC001 and not CC1. That way they should load in the right order.

      Hi Gert,

Thanks for getting back to me but I’ve tried that and it doesn’t work, to easy to be true.
There sorted correctly in Bridge, but as soon as I use ImageCatalog to import them into inDesign there sorted cc01.jpg, cc10.jpg, cc11.jpg etc

I don’t know if it’s inDesign or the script that needs to be tweeked

      Thanks again

      Paul,

Did you try using three digits as Gert suggested? I renamed some test files using three digits and had no problem with the ordering.

I love this script and have been using my own slightly modified version for years. Here are some tips regarding contact sheets if you missed it: https://creativepro.com/the-ultimate-contact-sheet.php/comment-page-1

Check the comments section for my tip on how to define page size BEFORE running the script.

      Hi Bob,

I tried responding to you a bit back but got an error message, only spotted that now. Anyway, I have moved down another path, I created a grid template and used Place to pop-in the images sorted by filename, it’s working OK so far – went a bit astray awhile ago, started sorting in a different order when I placed them – all OK again. Don’t know what happened there.

      Thanks for your help
      Paul
