I’m a long time InDesign user and about two months ago something started to happen which never used to. I’m not sure if it was after a particular update or if there is a particular setting which I have changed, but after searching the web for hours I cannot find anything related to what I am experiencing. I have tried deleting the preferences and playing with settings, but nothing seems to make a difference. I’m starting to wonder if this is a ‘new feature’, but I can’t imagine it would be beneficial to anybody, so I hope not. This is what happens:
I create a frame and place an image into that frame. I then select ‘Fill frame proportionally’. If I then copy the frame and paste it, the frame and the image scale automatically within a split second when it’s pasted. So basically I have one frame/image as I want it (scaled correctly with ‘Fill frame proportionally’) and then I have the pasted frame/image at a totally different size.
This is greatly affecting my workflow so any input is very much appreciated.
I’m using the latest release of InDesign 2014. Thanks.

WEIRD!
When you paste, does the frame and the image scale? Or does just the image inside the frame change? -

It is, isn’t it!
Both scale! When I paste, I can actually see the correct frame/image size for a split second – then BANG! – it automatically enlarges itself by about 4–5 times so that it becomes huge! It is an absolute killer when I’m working with long docs and want to copy/paste, as you can imagine. I was working on a long table the other week and one column had images in each row, which were all sized perfectly, but if I attempted to copy/paste that table to use further in the document, then the whole column with the images just became a mess because the images scaled all over by themselves. I have tried simple testing with a one page new document but as I said in my initial post, it does not seem to matter what I do!

So it happens with all new documents, too.
Does it matter if you use the Edit menu vs. keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste?
What happens if you cut and paste instead?
What happens if you option/alt-drag the object to duplicate it instead? You’re saying you did rebuild your application preferences?

Yes, all documents, new and old.
Same outcome trying any kind of cut/copy/paste/alt-drag
Rebuilt preferences several times by holding down shift+ctrl+alt+cmd (even just tried it again now)
Also, I just created a new document and placed an image, but instead of placing the image inside an existing frame, I dragged a box with the loaded place cursor, when I let go – BOOM – it resizes the entire image, just like when i copy/paste etc! So frustration!

I still have this issue and it’s so frustrating and time consuming. I was wondering if anyone had experienced it and has any fix?
I just opened up InDesign CC and it works as expected. It’s only InDesign CC (2014) that causes me trouble. It’s so, so odd.

Have you tried starting Indesign using Run as Administrator (if you are on Windows)? I guess the last resource would be to uninstall/install ID CC (2014).

I’m on a Mac. I guess you’re right though, I should try to reinstall and see if that fixes it. Thanks!

Have you installed any add-ins that might be doing this?

Anne! You are absolutely right!!! I have the APID ToolAssistant installed and the Place and Scale Prefs were enabled and set to 300%. As soon as I switched this off the auto resizing stops!
Thank YOU so much!!! This has been making me crazy for months and months!
