On a recent project a client pointed out that a PDF I exported from InDesign was viewed with extreme anomalies on Windows Phone—it looks like the page was broken up into a grid with drop shadows … with some elements still displaying correctly on a top layer. (I would post and image but I’m confident corporate wouldn’t want me to!). It seems as if Windows Phone was unable to display a drop shadow effect. At the moment I don’t have the opportunity to do more testing. Has anyone experience such issues with Windows Phone? I’m trying to get more data on the OS version, etc.

Viewing PDFs on phones is unpredictable—if that’s the destination of the design, export as JPG.

Raster effects and transparencies (especially with spot colors) can wreak havoc on any PDF viewer.

Try exporting with this Standard: PDF/x 1a:2001 – Acrobat 4
