Hi! Hoping someone can help me!
I have created a book with 14 separate documents to make a manual. I have numbered the pages for each document as demonstrated below:
1.1, 1.2, and so on for document 1
2.1, 2.2, and so one for document 2My index I generate however, will only show up as shown below:
BAG FEES …..13
BANK DEPOSITS …..3–4
(It will duplicate numbers and not add the 1._ prefix I have reflected in the Pages Panel.
Can anyone please help?? -

How did you do the 1. prefix part? Did you use the Prefix feature in the Section and Page Numbering Options dialog box?

Yes I went to the pages panel on each document and changed the prefix in the Numbering & Section Options.

That is very strange, then. Can you explain what you mean by “it will duplicate numbers” (I don’t see duplicate numbers in your example)

On my Pages Panel it should the page numbers as I changed them (1.1,1.2,2.1, etc.)
On my Book Panel it should them as (Document1 1-7, Document2 1-42) the prefix does not show up
So on my Index is will list page 1.2 and 2.2 just as “2” so something from document 1 and document 2 appear as if they are on the same page.
Does that make sense? -

I’m not sure what could be going wrong. I just wrote up how I do this, as I’m sure other people find this confusing, too:
https://creativepro.com/adding-prefixes-page-numbers-indesign.phpIs the solution in there somewhere? If not, I supposed there’s a possibility that one or more of your documents have become corrupted, or other weirdness might have gotten into the system.

I did figure it out thank you! There was a break and some pages numbers were not linked to the master, they were standing alone…so I fixed that.
Do you know how to have the index look like this flush on the right side of the text box?
index entry……….1.1
policies………….1.2 -

I like using the right indent tab: Type > Insert Special Character > Other > Right Indent Tab. I’ll write that up in another blog post soon. :)
