Hi. I have approximately 400 Word documents that I currently copy and paste portions of into an InDesign template, since there is a lot of other text in the Word doc that is not needed in the InDesign layout (it’s a questionnaire, so the text I’m moving over is unique in each document, but the rest is template text). I am looking for a more efficient way to import this text. How can this be done? Someone suggested XML tags, maybe even scripts? Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated!
Hi,
Another question would be : how would you tell Indesign which parts of your Word file you want to import ?
In Excel you can specify which cell range you want to import.
But in Word, it’s not possible. So you need to import all of your text THEN in InDesign remove the parts you don’t need. Thus you don’t have to modify in any way your Word files.
You could achieve this with a script, as you said. But I can only help you if you’re on a Mac since I only know AppleScript.
If you have applied paragraph styles to the text, it is not very hard to delete the text after you import it:
