Hi, since a few months I receive the IndesignSecrets Newsletter. So far I’ve learned a lot of new tricks to work faster. But every once in a while there is a shortcut that doesn’t work on an Azerty-keyboard, like for instance this weeks tip “Transform Sequence Again” or “View spread in window” and all the Arrange functions (like “Bring to front”). I work on Azerty because I live in Belgium and I work with an English version of Indesign, because back in the day, the Dutch version was more expensive. By now I am so used to it plus when I look something up on the Internet, you get more results when you search in English.

Maybe the shortcuts would work in the Dutch version but it is very frustrating for me not get the most out of my program. I know I can assign my own shortcuts and when I use it a lot, I do this. But if I do this for everything, I need a separate manual for all my shortcuts. Because of course, the shortcut that is shown in the menu does not change. Does anyone know of another way to solve this?

      Thanks!

      Véronique

      Veronique, try:

      1. Edit->Keyboard Shortcuts->Set: choose [Default] (or your preferred set)

If you don’t get a better answer here,

      2. Reset your preferences
      3. Uninstall then reinstall InDesign (Creative Cloud application if you are running CC)

For more details about which other preferences you will lose, and backing them up, see:
      https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html
Scroll down to: Restore all preferences and default settings

(Windows) Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
(Mac OS) While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.

Yep, this is cliché, but a simple restart of my Mac made everything work again, for me!

I have the same problem and restarting my mac also solves the problem, but only temporarily. I’ve reset preferences, quit out of chrome, checked system preferences keyboard preferences, don’t have a webroot security system … the only thing that works is restarting the mac. But I want a permanent fix. Every discussion I’ve seen online has not given me a solution.

Here it is December 2020 and this problem still exists in the latest version of ID. Random (and sometimes ALL) keyboard shortcuts simply stop working. Hitting the T key to switch to the Type Tool either doesn’t work at all, or switches for a half second before automatically switching to the Select Tool. Spacebar shortcuts stop working, etc.
