Is there any way to pressure Adobe to restore the Kindle-generator plugin for InDesign CSS? There are things that ePub cannot handle and Kindle can, and that the conversion programs are no help with.

Honestly I don’t see Amazon coming out with another plugin, though the tides could change and it could happen, but for now you will have to go back to CS6 and use the Kindle for InDesign plug-in. If converting an ePub with KindleGen or Kindle Previewer can’t do what you are wanting, you will probably need to consult an eBook developer to help you get the results you are looking for in your Kindle conversion.

I tried several experts and corresponded with Adobe about the problems with their epub creations, and they admitted they could not handle what Kindle can. What’s so hard about them restoring the Kindle plugin, especially if it weans people off CS6?

The Kindle gen plug-in was from Amazon, not Adobe. I believe Adobe has reached out to Amazon in the past to try to encourage some progress on that, but it doesn’t appear to be a high priority for Amazon, sadly.
