Hi Guys,
I am a total InDesign n00b. I have a really simple question. I have a bunch of artwork in PDF format from some advertisers. These PDFs all have their respective bleeds etc. The problem is when I “place” them into InDesign, the bleed from the left PDF will overlap the centre of the spread to the right PDF. How can I make InDesign export the full spread correctly with the centre sliced just at the edge of the page?

Thanks.

Looks like you have Facing Pages set up. Simply, if you don’t want this overlap, turn Facing Pages off. If Facing Pages is important to you, you have to manually adjust the frame so it ends at the center.
What is the final output of this file? If it’s a saddlestich/booklet, then there are no bleeds in the center (insides).

Hi Colleen,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried turning facing pages off, but the problem is that my MASTER PAGES (a lot of them) or based on Double spreads with backgrounds spanning across. If Facing pages are turned off, then all pages will only adopt the left side of the MASTER pages. :(
Is there a masking function or is there a way to make the output files output each page individually and ignore content on another page?
Thanks again!

Found a way around. Created a clear rectangle on each side and pasted items into them.
Probably an easier solution though, right?

You can import a PDF to Trim, if you don’t want crops and bleeds to appear.

Thanks again Colleen.
Where is that function? Will it be better to use the trim method over my “paste into” method?

When you place a PDF, choose Show Import Options.
Options: Crop to: Trim -

The problem with outputting to trim is that sometimes printers want the 4-sided bleed on every page. I wish that there WAS a workaround besides just not using facing pages. I usually design brochures/booklets as facing pages. Unfortunately, for a 100 page book, I had a stylesheet where the type was set up to be justified “away from spine”, so when I changed the layout to non-facing pages, I had to manually justify half of the headers.

Ann: There are options, including: https://indesignsecrets.com/split-images-that-span-across-two-pages-free-script.php
