I’m working on a math book for kids teaching multiplication and division.
The publisher has had a typist type up with file in Word in simple lines going across.
Some pages have exercises like this:
12
x 14
_____(A line underneath for the answer)
Plus they all need a number next to them in a way that the children can see it is the number of the exercise and not a number as part of the math problem.
A different designer has already done a book in this series and I’ve seen her set up, but I was wondering what you all would suggest in terms of the best more time efficient way of setting up the pages.
Thanks!

Hi Rivkah,
I am assuming you want the math problems to have the numbers right aligned. Set up a paragraph styles containing both a numbered list and a rule below. Change all the hard returns in each math problem to soft returns.
Indents and Spacing:
– Right-aligned paragraphBullets and Numbering
– Bullet or number position alignment doesn’t seem to matter
– Left indent: 0.625 in
– First line indent: -0.625 inParagraph Rules:
– Rule Below:
– 0.5 pt
– Width: Text
– Offset: .03 inDo a find and replace for all the underscores to remove them and change the paragraph style to the new one you just made.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. There is something perhaps I did not write clearly enough – or that I didn’t understand from your answer – and that is that there are a number of rows of these problems going across horizontally.
Is there something in the above that spaces these?
