It’s a book made on indesign. I exported in PDF. Everything appears on screen (colors, etc.)
When i print it, everything is ok.

But when the printer printed the same pdf, some colors were missing. How is this possible ?
We have now 5000 copies of a book with missing colors pfff…

      Can someone help please ?

Thanks a lot ! Im lost.

Can you take a screen shot in InDesign with your Swatches Pallette? Make sure you are adding unnamed colors, and converting all Spot Colors to Process. (Assuming this is a process job). Otherwise, you should check to see if there are any Overprint settings of vector art in both InDesign and Illustrator (both with Selection and Direct Selection tool).

Otherwise, it could be a PostScript error. PDFs should be saved with x1a standard. Raster effects, especially gradients and spot colors can cause big printing problems.

Did your printer offer a printed proof? It’s not normal to print 5,000 copies without a customer-approved proof.

      Thanks !

There is one named color and one spot color. I want to show you but can we send screen shot ?

      I always saved PDF with “none”… We’ll try x1a.

The printer did offer a printed proof but only on screen. Colors were missing but my colleagues didn’t see it (I didn’t see the printed proof). Our fault…

https://imgur.com or any image hosting will work. You upload the image and it gives you a URL (web address) you can post.

Thank you very much for your help !

I think i find the pb ! There are some files imported from Illustrator to Indesign.
The designer who made this project (not me) used “overprint” on some colors in illustrator !! Pffff ! What a mess !

And you were right actually : “you should check to see if there are any Overprint settings”… but i didn’t quite understand because of my english…

      Thanks anyway =)

Didn’t the printer show you a proof before printing and binding 5,000 copies? If they did and the proof looks correct, the printer is on the hook because they didn’t match the proof. If they showed a proof and the problem is evident in the proof, whoever approved the proof is on the hook. If no proof was provided, why not?

*edit – I just reread the posts above and see the answers to these questions.
